Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Griffith’s Centre for another successful Diamond Valley Repair Café!
By the numbers:
*37 community members**attended.
*70% of repair attempts were successful*, giving many items a new lease on life.
An estimated *$275*was saved in replacement costs and service technician fees.
Our *Trade Day* helped keep useful items circulating within the community.
The Food Bank donation box received contributions to help local families.
One unexpected highlight came after the event.
Shortly after posting our Repair Café reminder, we received greetings from **Flickstatt – Repair Café** in Baden, Switzerland, who have been following our activities for several years. Their message recognized the combination of our Repair Café, Trade Day, and Food Bank support, and reminded us that Diamond Valley is part of a worldwide community working together to repair, reuse, reduce waste, and strengthen local communities.
The benefits extend beyond the estimated $275 saved in replacement purchases and service costs. Every successful repair also delays or avoids the environmental impacts of manufacturing, packaging, transporting, and eventually disposing of a replacement product. As we improve our event tracking, we will begin estimating the embodied carbon emissions avoided through these repairs, providing a fuller picture of their life-cycle value.
Thank you to our volunteers, everyone who brought items to repair, those who participated in the Trade Day, and everyone who supported the Food Bank. Every repair, every conversation, and every item kept in use helps build a more resilient and sustainable community.
